"..if we could simply go buy a ready made replacement with that money, why wouldn’t City go buy that player instead?

Apparently, because it isn't just about finding a player, it is about disrupting the lives of your close rivals.

And the bid has been a great success in that respect.

I like that line up mate...It makes perfect sense to play Reo-Coker in the centre mid role with Stan...What a lot of ppl tend to forget is that Stan used to play just behind the front 2 at Celtic and scored a lot of goals...It was for Bulgaria that he played the holding role..That's why MON played him there! Reo Coker is a fantastic player but he's been low on confidence since his falling out with MON. Sidwell is another player that has yet to show his best form since leaving Reading all those yrs ago..We have some cracking players warming our bench but for whatever reason they have no confidence which shows when they are called upon...MON must look at himself for that! It's his doing, no one elses! Gabby upfront on his own is the best way for us to play..When we play 4-4-2 we get over run in midfield. Stan hasn't got the pace anymore and he gets left standing when we are attacked...We should defend with 4-5-1 and attack with a 4-3-3 formation. It makes perfect sense to use a lone striker like Gabby...Especially hitting teams on the break which has proved so fruitful for us since MON arrived...MON did a great job for us...I don't wanna belittle the job he did but he did also alienated quiet a few players aswell...Inclusion for all players is the name of the game from now on....Come on Villa!!!

That's totally the line-up I'd like to see, though possibly with Delph when fit instead of Petrov or NRC. It would see Milner playing the 'Gerrard' role behind Gabby - who I think really could play as that main striker. Personally, I'd concentrate on bringing in a top quality defensive midfielder for now - Gabby was up top on his own last season during our best run of form, I really think he could do a great job for us if we're set up that way. With Delfouneso and Heskey/Carew as alternatives, I think we're strong enough there for now.
That way, when we do qualify the Champions League next year (hopefully), we're perfectly timed to bring in a *really* good centre forward for that. I think we're better off waiting a year for that.
