Aston Villa’s new home and away shirts for 2010/11 are being launched at an event in Centenary Square today, ably modelled by Stiliyan Petrov, Brad Friedel, Carlos Cuellar and Stewart Downing.

The home shirt has leaked ahead of the event, it’s a traditional claret shirt with blue sleeves, but features a check trim down the sides. The away shirt is black and features the same claret and blue check down the sides.

In other news today, Emile Heskey has announced his retirement from international football.

I’ll be updating the gallery during the day as pictures surface. (Pictures from the OS and Twitter)

Poor show from NIKE and Villa. Worst kit for ages

Wow, you must really hate checks!

The only time there has been a DECENT CZECH was when Milan Baros signed!! Checked patterns are not associated with football, try F1. How on earth did a designer produce something like that? Maybe their Glaucoma was playing up!!!!

To be fair, I probably only like it because it reminds me of Sonic’s Green Hill Zone. But in claret and blue.

Riiiiiiiiiiiight! So you are comparing it to a childs Game now? What does that say about it? Maybe it should have a U rating on the arm or suitable for ages 3 upwards? Better still, you could always get a job for NIKE as a designer…

Checks aren’t entirely without precedent in football, though, and I do like that it’s something a bit different. Better than basically being a copy of other Nike kits but with claret and blue.

    Not exactly, no.

… you admitted you only like it because it remind you of a childs game. Enough said

i agree with you the checks make the shirt look pooor and cheap and im not happy with the shade of claret it looks very weak i liked the deep claret on the acorns shirt, it really anoys me because it reminds me of the shirts we had made by hummel with the stupid triangles on it. the old acorns shirt looked modern and sleek and repersanted the clud as a serious footballing club very well now it doesnt.

Yes, but that was a joke.

More bad news for you, MB, it seems the away kit followins the same pattern:

Heskey calls it a day. Well done Emile and good judgment in knowing when to get out. Capello called him up to do a particular job and no one can say he hasn’t done that job. He has given it everything in an England Jersey for Cappello and fair play to him.
There are so many other England world cup players who didn’t do the job they were asked and should do the honorable thing and retire as well and let Cappello clean the decks without having to have big media showdowns with them. Stand up Jamie Carragher, John Terry, Rio Ferdinand, Frank Lampard and David James.
As for that idiot Beckham he is just a media hungry moron. He was injured go home and recover for your club. Not him he had to be in the spotlight. The sooner he is told to stay in America and stay away from English football the better chance of a recovery for the national team. A lot of these fellows haven’t the interest of the national team at heart it’s only their egos that matter.

See, now *that* is a bad kit. Good grief.

    I like the kit.
Whilst I agree the checks aren’t brilliant, at least it actually looks different this time.

    Heskey’s retired eh?

    That’s a shame isn’t it?
    Hmmm.

I don’t mind the checks–dresses it up a little. Wish the “FxPro” had an outline color similar to acorns. Maybe it would stand out a little better and look a little sharper.

I don’t like the away kits. Why does every team seem to experiment with black colors when they aren’t your traditional colors????

If they finish top 4, they can all wear the GK’s kit for all I care….at least it’s not Everton’s pink kit.

The new kit looks great, different from last year which is good. The goalkeeper kit thow……. uh ow!

Next year I’d like to see claret and blue strips!

  18. Gavin 16 July 2010 at 9:53 am #

Wasn’t a black kit the original colours of Villa?

    > Wasn’t a black kit the original colours of Villa?

I believe so. And besides, the whole point of away kits is to move away from traditional colours and mix things up a bit. It’s only been ten years since our last one, too.

I love how the checks allow the claret and blue to be more prominent on the away top, too. I’m definitely getting me one of those.
