2010/11 will be Martin O’Neill’s 5th season in charge of Aston Villa and before a major player has been bought or sold and before a single ball has been kicked, I want to find out what you expect the club to deliver next term.
I’m not looking for your predictions, I’ll leave such things in the capable hands flippers tentacles of sea creatures, I want to know what your expectations are. Is it all about the league for you? Do you expect Villa to finally crash the top four and qualify for Champions League? Will nothing less than Europe’s top tier satisfy your football thirst or would you be happy with another shot at the Europa League?
How about silverware, would you expect to see the boys climbing the Wembley stairs to collect a trophy next season? Would another trip to Wembley be good enough, or would you rather focus elsewhere?
How about Europe? Do you even care, or would it take a run to the final in Dublin next May to keep you satisfied?
I’d really appreciate it if you could answer the simple survey below in an honest and realistic way and also use the grid at the bottom to indicate the priorities you hold the various competitions. I’m guessing we all regard the Premier League as number 1, the rest is very difficult without it, but how do the domestic cups and Europe compare?
To help you out, here’s a quick summary of the last four seasons:-
| Season | League Pos | Points | Pts per Game | FA Cup | League Cup | UEFA Cup | Total Games Played |
| 2006/07 | 11 | 50 | 1.32 | R3 | R4 | 42 | |
| 2007/08 | 6 | 60 | 1.58 | R3 | R3 | 41 | |
| 2008/09 | 6 | 62 | 1.63 | R5 | R3 | R3 | 53 |
| 2009/10 | 6 | 64 | 1.68 | SF | Final | Q4 | 54 |
So, what do you expect the club to achieve in 2010/2011?
I’ll leave this survey open until just before the season opens and publish the results shortly afterward. All individual forms submitted will remain confidential, no personal information will be published.
Thank you for taking the time to let me know your opinion.

I’ve answered.
The prem is by far the priority for me.
I said top 6.
We’re talking expectation, not wants, I had to keep reminding myself.
I think we did extremely well to reach a semi and a final in the cups (something that I think many others don’t really appreciate tbh. We’re not Man U after all), so lower expectations this time.
Maybe a QF.
I’d like us to do reasonably well in the Europa, so plumped for the round of 16.
Play our best side and winning it is not impossible, imo (Fulham).
But that won’t happen.
i think you’re right about the cups. without wanting to take away from the achievements last season and with all due respect to the teams that we did beat, as soon as we came up against serious opponents in utd and chelsea, we lost.
sure, there were examples of terrible refereeing which probably influenced the results, but, in both games, once we had to chase things, we came up well short.
i’m spotting a pleasing trend in the results so far which suggests a healthy interest in the europa league this season. i suspect fulham’s run to the final restored a lot of enthusiasm last year and i really hope we do well this time.
Well I suppose the League is most important and it would be disappointing to finish outside the European qualifications spots but this task seems to get taller every season.
In my world the Europa would come next and I would like to see us giving it a right bash. European nights bring something different and whatever the profile of the competition it still gives a club exposure that the domestic cups simply don’t. You can imagine the excitement if we got to a quarter final, we would start dreaming.
As for the domestic cups its a toss up for me. The F.A. cup is obviously the bigger one but the other one might be easier to win and I would take any silver ware at Villa Park.
yup, agree with all that.
i’m desperate to see us get into the group stage of the EL this time, then we have 6 games and who knows?
if we can get through the group and then maybe take it a little more seriously – not wanting to jinx anything, but we could be out of the domestic cups at that point – a decent run in the knock out phases could be possible.
i think a Dublin final would be an attractive prospect for a great number of fans!
