Nothing like a good old beep test on your first day back at work after a long break, eh? The OS has some fantastic pictures of the first team back in training, kitted out in new purple gear with the FxPro logo emblazoned on the front. I’ve just borrowed a few here, but there’s lots more on the OS, so go check it out. I think I’m a fan of purple for the training kit, there’s a certain logic to it.
It looks like just about everyone is there except the World Cup foursome, who are excused until July 25th, and Nathans Delfouneso and Baker, who are travelling to France today with the England Under-19s.
They’ve got about 11 days to work out the summer cobwebs before the first pre-season friendly in Peterborough on July 19th. I’m starting to get a little excited here, but also saddened by the knowledge that Sunday’s World Cup final signals what will surely be a tumultuous frenzy of baseless transfer speculation for the rest of the window.
Ah well, the relative peace has been nice while it lasted. Release the transfer hounds!!

Lovely! It’s not boding well on the sponsor front, though. I was hoping the FxPro tagline would be left off the kits, but it’s present on the new training tops.
i noticed some debate about whether that was or wasn’t allowed. i haven’t looked into it tbh, but agree it would probably look a tad better without it.
From what I’ve seen, their sponsorship in motor sport usually just consists of just the logo on the cars and the motto appearing on hoardings and the like. Hopefully that’s what’ll happen with us.
The FxPro logo is dead nice, but I’d rather not be reminded about how mundane the company actually is with their motto staring back at me from the shirt.
i’m inclined to agree. the only issue i have is that as an unfamiliar company, to me at least, their name has the appearance of some kind of headache medication or other.
then again, i suppose that’s the very purpose of these deals, to market themselves… on that subject, were you aware that they’ll also be fulham’s shirt sponsor next season?
Aye, I saw that. It’s the ‘glory’ days of NTL all over again!
Oops, didn’t reply properly!
Anyway, while I’m here, may I say this is an excellent site, sir.
no problem, you can only go down 4 levels before you have to come back up here in any case.
thanks for the compliment btw, much appreciated!
As far as releasing the transfer hounds – this is a something of a revelation for me, as I have not followed this closely in past years. The quest to find real news about Milner has left me nostalgic for the days of printed news, which did not allow me to get inundated with conflicting rumors, unsourced quotations and idle speculation so freely offered in the English tabloids. After reading for weeks that Milner had “turned in his transfer request” that “Barry would persuade him to come to Eastlands,” and that Villa was “resigned to losing him,” I see today in the Express & Star that, due to his “strong relationship” with O’Neill, Milner will not be requesting a transfer and will only go if Villa gets what it wants. I will follow your advice and try to ignore this for a while.
Meanwhile, stateside we apparently at a merciful end to two weeks of highly-paced sources telling us where LeBron James is going.
i have a nasty feeling that having been forced to more or less ignore the transfer market for 5 weeks, the tabloids are about to explode in a frothy mess of transfer nonsense.
you’re exactly correct, after claiming that milner will hand in a transfer request, they’re now claiming the *exact* opposite.
oh, your last sentence is not unrelated, see what you miss by abstaining from twitter…. http://twitpic.com/23iarp
(i almost brought that one here, but decided twitter was the place since i doubt many UK readers will get it)
Hilarious! Thanks for sharing that. I think I will use that for wallpaper for a while.
Now we can start the rumors that Manchester City is making a bid to lure LeBron to Eastlands.
I love that shirt.
I agree with you, purple is great.
It’s surely no coincidence that it’s a mix of claret and blue either?
Yes, I don’t like the fact that I’ve never heard of FXpro either, but it would seem this is the way of the modern world, where companies that you’ve never heard of are the ones making the real money (purely by turning money around).
Let’s hope they don’t go boobs up!
As for the transfer hounds, well I see the “what the fook is MON messing about at?” comments are starting to come out.
After his totally sorting out the defence in one foul swoop last season, I really do wonder what planet some of these people live on.
As for the press speculators, they make me laugh.
Nothing leaks from VP and they know it.
Which is why they have to totally make it up.
I must admit, I got sucked in about a rumour that Milner has refused to discuss a contract.
After some thought, I much prefer to think that the various parties have agreed to leave it and see how things progress.
Be brave Badger, there’s a lot of mileage in the milner story yet.
Will be interesting to see whether he’s used in any of the promo material when the new shirt is launched. I suspect he won’t be, but more will be made of that than is necessary.
