Excerpt from an official statement just published on the club website:-
We are conscious that we have steered clear of openly communicating our thoughts on the search for a permanent manager until this time, as we felt that to do so would undermine both Kevin’s and the players’ efforts to focus on preparing for these games.
To date, we have immersed ourselves in the process of appointing a new manager and clearly identifying the key criteria this person must meet.
Two of the traits we believe are of crucial importance are that candidates have experience of managing in the Premier League and a strategy for building on the existing strengths in our current squad.
We have thoroughly researched potential candidates and have reached out to a variety of contacts we have within the game for advice and guidance, as well as keeping key staff at Villa Park informed and focused.
If you hadn’t ruled Bob Bradley out in your own mind for his lack of UEFA badges, you can rule him out for his lack of Premiership management experience, which is now an explicit prerequisite.

Hmmm… Can’t think of any managers with prem experience out of work that are any good and with Jol looking like he will stick with Ajax due to their champions league inclusion, I have a horrible feeling Sven could be on his way… *shudder*
We should see Houllier’s odds come in from 66-1 now then.
Oh and doesn’t this also rule out McDonald?
Could this mean they are going to let KMac gain some experience of managing in the Premier League (say until Feb) and then appoint him. This would have the added bonus of missing spending during two Transfer Windows instead of just the one. Or am I being too cynical?
i initially interpreted this to rule KMac out, but if they delay it long enough, as Nan says, he’ll eventually qualify.
then again, was there not a whisper claiming an intention to appoint before stoke?
Roll on the naysayers latching onto point 2 about the “building on the current” scenario!
anyone think of kevin keegan?
The pool looks very shallow indeed. I actually like point #2 that we are looking for someone to make use of a very talented young squad rather than sell off the existing players to buy new ones.
