It would appear James Milner’s 24 hour ultimatum has forced some action and it’s currently being reported that he is heading to Manchester for a medical. Presumably he’ll pass Stephen Ireland on the way. Not sure they’ll wave to each other.

As it stands, it sounds like our side of the bargain will be Stephen Ireland plus £16m. What will happen to that money is another question, but I wouldn’t assume it will all go to fund new players.

More later. The latest update I have is that Milner’s medical will not actually take place until tomorrow, whether that stops us completing Ireland’s medical and unveiling him as a new player remains to be seen. If that happens, I’ll follow up of course. If not, it seems it’s finally all over bar the shouting.

Obviously neither player is named in their new club’s respective Europa League squads right now, but clubs are allowed to make one change to the 25 man squad up to midnight the night before the game as long as the player is registered correctly. So, if this deal is completed and ratified by tomorrow, it’s possible that Ireland and/or Milner could make the debuts on Thursday.

Even though this is a good deal for us, the fact that Molner wanted to leave and Ireland didn’t really want to come, makes us look like a small club. Very annoying. Who will be the next to go?

I think we have seen the last of the exits this transfer window. I would like to see maybe one more Striker come in but all in all I actually like the squad as it stands, we lack a little threat right up the front, but our attacking mids are all strong. Bring on the matches!

Also, Ireland is a fast solid player, he might find his form and be brilliant for us this season.

Sorry to Milner leave….even more sorry to see him go to such a douchy club like Man City

Nan, i don’t think it was a case of Ireland not wanting to come, he just wanted some recompense from the club he was leaving.
Milner is a fool in my opinion, he had a chance to be great at VP, now he is just another Man City player who will fast become a nearly man. Look at Barry’s form since leaving us, i don’t believe he has fulfilled his potential.

RSam, long time no see. I hope you’re right about Ireland. At the moment I am only seeing the negative in most things football, except of course that 1st half from Spuds. Very entertaining.
