He’s definitely making all the right noises and feels like he’s fitting in at Villa already
There’s a video of some of the interview here, I can’t get it to embed at the moment I’m afraid.
I liked what he had to say about Villa and the “bling-bling” culture at City, although with those cars I’m not sure he’s in the best position to criticise. In fairness, I think it’s the attitude he’s taking a swipe at.
Stephen Ireland
I’ve really landed on my feet here. I think it’s a family club and one that will get the best out of me. I am actually shocked at how good it is. I’ve settled in so well, so fast. Even the young lads are so polite. I’m actually quite shocked with that.At City they’re not like that. They’re coming in with £10,000 watches on their wrists and walking around as if they have played 200 Premier League games.
It’s worth reading the rest in The Guardian. Plenty more outside of what he said in the video above and it doesn’t paint Mancini in a particularly flattering light. But then he’s not likely to, is he?
I don’t care, people can dismiss it as sour grapes if they wish, it sounds like his head is in exactly the right place as far as we need be concerned and he’s going to be a great player for us.

Aston Villa News 24/7

Be warned, he criticised Hughes when he left as well, because didn’t play him where he wanted. Ireland is far too precious, He was bloody awful last season for both hughes and Mancini, didn’t work hard enough on the pitch, sulked because he wasnt in his favourite position, even when given his favourite position, he failed to perform. He is deeply immature. Doesn’t like staying in hotels before games, and has driven home on numerous occasions, quite ireland because he was teased for his wig.
Mancini doesn’t build a relationship with players, because he is the manager, not their best mates. Martin O’neil isn’t so different either!
I’m delighted to be rid of him, Physically to weak to cope against good opposition, very much a fair weather player. Won’t get stuck if it’s not going well and will sulk if not played in the right positions, as he is vastly one dimensional.
i can understand where you’re coming from, it’s generally better not to lash out at the previous club in this way.
shorey could have said similar things the other day when he joined west brom, instead he just said he was looking to the future and the past was the past.
that said, we’ll judge him by what he does on the pitch. that’s all that really matters.
I read the whole piece on Stephen Ireland and he was right to have his say on how he was treated at City.. i woulda knocked Mancini out if he’d put me down like he did Stephen.
I’m really excited to read the comments about Villa being a family club and the players showing respect for each other at our club..That is something special in the game today when you think of all the money and inflated ego’s flying about. I think we will see the best of Ireland now. City made a grave mistake letting a player of his quality go. They valued him at £8mil. Muppets. HE’s easily worth double that right now and once he starts doing the business for us week in and out his value will soar…Yeah we didn’t want Milner to go but he didn’t want to stay at our club for whatever reason and that’s up2 him. What Ireland had to say visa-vi The grass being greener, Milner may be in for a terrible shock over at the Manchester club.
When i think of the money City have thrown away on some of their players wages and they pushed a player of Irelands quality out the door, it sounds crazy to me..not to mind Ireland!
I would love for them to explain why they kept an old player like Patrick Vierra who’s wages r probably huge compared to Irelands??? It dosen’t make financial sense but then again the clubs like city and Chelsea have shown no sense whatsoever when entering into the transfer market…23mil on Balotelli and he’s unproven in the Prem Lge and yet they bitched about Milners price. A player who’s been plying his trade successfully in the Prem Lge for yrs now..That club will suffer in the longrun b’cos they won’t keep tabs on their youth system now and most of their best young players will leave as quick as they can. The owners at City won’t spend like this forever..it would be madness to do so..How much have they spent so far with the club in total-£billion?? Jesus that’s just crazy!! it complete madness to act this way..They’ve shown no regard for other clubs players when trying to sign them..It’s give us what we want or else we’l throw our toys outa the pram….Tossers!!
Welcome to ASTON VILLA FC-Stephen Ireland..I know you’re going to be a huge player for us in the yrs to come…It’s great to have a few Irish lads back at the Club again…Hopefully you bring the Luck of the Irish with ya Stephen…Best of luck for the season ahead you and all the lads at the Club…UTV…UTV…UTV..
two sides to everything is all i’ll say.
all that matters is that he’s with us now and he seems eager to do well. as long as he does it on the pitch, the rest doesn’t matter much to me.
as for city, well maybe they’ll buy all the world’s best players and win every trophy going and everything will be awesome for them. then again, maybe it won’t.
If he’s big mates with Dunbe, then I think we’ll be OK. Being booted out by City may be just the kick up the arse that he needed. In many ways it is good that he was dumped on us, rather than us having pursued him, as this will ensure that he no longer feels like a big shot.
*Dunne* obviously. (Fat phone finger)
Urrrmmm, just read the whole article and………he sounds like a total nutter. Now I am a bit scared.
^ he’s deeply immature! childlike claims about being best at bleep tests, he has been awful on the pitch for a long time, even in his glory season, he went missing half of that campaign.
astonmichaeldevilla – you clearly know very little about city, and get all your info from the sun. Rather than slagging city off do some research. to question our youth programme is a joke. -
I’d be more worried about ireland, and where will Villa play him. Because he want to be in his fav position or not at all. So who drops out of the side for him. He certainly won’t do what milner did for villa along side petrov.
Dunne will look after Ireland, as he tried to do after he was bullied in the irish team. Hope his influence bring benefits. Ireland grows up a bit and realises he can’t do what he wants…
at his best, he’s clearly comparable with milner, as illustrated by these stats:
http://astonvillacentral.com/2010/08/tale-of-the-tape-james-milner-vs-stephen-ireland/
what we don’t know yet is whether he’ll recapture that 2008/09 form, or whether he was a one season wonder. only time will tell and idle gossip about what goes on in training is of little interest.
one thing i do feel certain of is that milner will continue working hard and improving. city have themselves a great player. we’ll see how ireland works out, but we have a crying need for a creative central midfielder, so he should be happy playing in his favourite position.
he was at city for an awful long time, just as barry was at villa for close to 10 years, perhaps a change will be as good as a rest.
