Wow. What a day! The game wasn’t all that thrilling, but Liverpool have been beaten at Villa Park for the first time in 13 years thanks to a superb strike from Stewart Downing and, with the other results today, we end up finishing in 9th place. A top half finish, on top of the Midlands once again despite our worst performance over 38 games for five years.

And… if that wasn’t enough, Birmingham City were relegated, initially thanks to hapless Wolves getting one back to finish 2-3 against Blackburn, but then Pavlyuchenko scored a second goal with practically the last kick of the game at White Hart lane to put the finishing touch to it.

Not much else to say at this stage, is there? That’s the 2010/11 season finally put to bed. Man Utd are the champions, we finish in 9th, Birmingham, Blackpool and West Ham are relegated.

Nigel Reo-Coker and Ashley Young were given the opportunity to soak up some applause from the crowd with late substitutions, perhaps signalling their last games in claret and blue, but there will be plenty of time to discuss that.

For now though, today is a good day, enjoy it!

under the circumstances, it’s difficult to imagine sunday going any more perfectly.

i thought MotD did a great job of editing the four crucial games into one sequence. craig gardner’s face was a picture, both when he thought he’d saved them and when he realised that he hadn’t!

Almost comic relief to hover just above relegation most of the year, then suddenly end up ninth.

Haven’t seen the Villa game yet, I was following the Wolves game and the updates on the others. Apparently this top of the Midlands thing is a big deal; I was just gald Wolves made it, and too bad the little engine that could, Blackpool,
    ould not.

Let the speculation begin about changing personnel. Personally, I do not want to see an overhaul – I think most of the problems this year were do to the last-minute manager turmoil, the Milner departure, and personality clashes with the new manager. Maybe Downing and ALbrighton are the future, but I would be happy to see Ashley Young back.

Right, thank God that is over. I’m off to watch cricket for a few weeks, when I get back I expect to see everything sorted out.

PS Do not disturb me with rumours of signing Van der Vaart or fears that Young is going to Walsall. Nor, exclusives on the £150m Randy wants to splash or the owners filing for bankruptcy.

PPS You have permission to alert me to danger iif Heskey is seen anywhere near Villa Park with a pen.
