NextGen Series: Rosenborg U19 3 Aston Villa U19 2

Qualification for the knock-out phases of the NextGen series will have to wait after Villa’s U19s failed to get a result in Norway, losing 3-2 to Rosenborg.

Derrick Williams cancelled out Ole Kristian Selnæs’ 29th minute opener from a Samir Carruthers corner in the 39th minute. Daniel Johnson sent the visitors into the break 2-1 ahead just minutes later with a wicked shot from a tight angle.

Selnæs struck again to tie the game up in the 70th minute with his shot taking a big deflection leaving Calum Barrett in the Villa goal no chance. Mushaga Bakenga grabbed the winner for the home side with 11 minutes left on the clock.

The Young Lions were without Benjamin Siegrist and Gary Gardner, both away with their nation U21 sides for Euro 2013 U21 qualifiers.

Villa hold on to second place in Group 3 with just Ajax left to play at Villa Park on November 22nd. Rosenborg have away trips to Fenerbahce and Ajax remaining.
