Actim Top 100 Index Revisited – Points Per Game Basis

I’ve been mucking around with the Actim Top 100 Index for a good few years now: I used to publish regular updates in an old forum before Aston Villa Central existed. It’s far from perfect, but it’s a pretty decent rule of thumb type of measure.

Someone once asked me whether the Villa players generally do so well because they play so many games. The short answer is yes.

However, they still have to do the business on the pitch

Villa Players In Actim Top 100 Index – 2009/10 Season

We’ve been checking in on the Actim Top 100 Index all season long on a roughly monthly basis and I’m very happy to include the final standings in the 2009/10 Season Review series as Villa actually top out the team table with no less than 10 players in the 100. If that surprises you, wait until you see who came in right behind us!

Before I get to that, here are the 10 players who finished in the Top 100

Villa Players in Actim Top 100 – Feb 23rd 2010

Aston Villa have 8 players in the Actim Top 100 Index this week, second only to Chelsea, with Gabby Agbonlahor leading the way in 3rd place with 475 points.

Focusing on Gabby for a moment; he may well be the embodiment of the Aston Villa style efficiency I’ve been discussing a lot recently. Wayne Rooney tops the goal scoring charts with 21 Premiership goals this term, but if he had Gabby’s goal per shot ratio he’d actually have 31!!

Villa Players in Actim Top 100 – Jan 26th 2010

This doesn’t include the Arsenal game, but as we haven’t had an update in 2010 so far I thought it was about time to check out the latest Actim Index. Gabby’s dropped down a place to 5th, but it’s an impressive foursome ahead of him – Cesc Fabregas, Didier Drogba, Nicolas Anelka and Wayne Rooney. Not too shabby then.

5th Gabriel Agbonlahor – 350 points
15th Ashley young – 310 points
18th Richard Dunne – 304 points
24th James Milner – 293

Villa Players in Actim Top 100 – Dec 15th 2009

I haven’t had chance to do an Actim post for a little while, but worry not, I do keep an eye on the data.  I’ve been waiting for the Index to be updated with the data from the weekend as I had a sneaky suspicion that our players would benefit from a certain victory over a certain team from Manchester.

The Index was finally updated today and it’s better news than I thought. Partially due to our victory over Man

Villa Players in Actim Top 100 – Nov 17th 2009

I feel bad, there’s lots of things I could have filled the international break with and Actim is ideal, but it completely slipped my mind. I thought I better throw this update out there before Jermaine Defoe’s 5 goal haul against Wigan wins him every spot in the top 20!!

Of course, I also want to make sure this update is seen as there are no less than 9 Aston Villa players in the Top 100, bested only by Chelsea:-

Villa Players in Actim Top 100 – Oct 6th 2009

I started keeping tabs on Aston Villa players in the Actim Index Top 100 last year, although I didn’t keep records of every week. In fact, my records aren’t very good at all, but one week I do happen to have from last year is the current week – i.e. after 7 games.

It’s interesting that the record of the first 7 games for this season and last is near identical, yet Villa’s representation in the Actim Top 100 looks
