A bit thick on PR here and there as Jack Woodward unconvincingly attempts to lead the players into agreeing that the new FxPro deal will somehow bring success no other sponsor could, but still interesting to see extended interviews. Especially Carlos Cuellar talking about the World Cup and Brad Friedel’s obvious disdain for the ~~bumblebee costume~~ goalkeeper kit.

I featured the Nike ad here mainly because of the obvious Villa connection, but also because it was brilliant. I’m doing the same with this Adidas ad simply because it’s bonkers and I love it! If the Star Wars theme seems a bit random, it’s probably because they actually have a Star Wars range. I know, still, the commercial is great, especially Snoop’s take on what Luke Skywalker should have said…

Oh, and if you missed it, the Socceroo video is definitely worth a minute of your time.

James Milner Crossbar Challenge

Another of these videos has mysteriously leaked from the training ground. This time it’s James Milner kicking balls into wheelie bins by deflecting them off the crossbar. This also proves that Milner will remain an Aston Villa player since it’s a well known fact that they don’t have wheelie bins in Manchester, so why would he want to go there?

Did you spot the glimpse of Ash at the beginning? I assume that the next video will be “Ashley Young – Keepy-Uppy King”, or suchlike. All good fun. I wonder if there’s a Richard Dunne video where he just wonders around with strikers in his pocket, drinking tea (actually, probably Guinness) and reading the paper.

No, probably not. I’ll get my coat.

I love these types of videos and this is quite nicely done, although no one involved is in any danger of winning an Oscar any time soon.

John Carew gets bored during filming before an interview and fixes an annoying flickering light behind the Villa badge on the North Stand using his skills. Yes, that’s Jack Woodward’s dulcet tones you hear in the background making convincing requests for “maintenance” to fix the sign before Carew steps in.

Perhaps Carew could put a bit more weight behind the next effort and knock the whole North Stand down. It would save money in demolition costs as part of any redevelopment!

I have @usofarsenal to thank for bringing this to my attention. Well, maybe ‘thank’ isn’t the right word, but to be honest; I’m really not sure yet. One thing’s for certain, our trip to Wembley is bringing the musical, er, talent out of the woodwork.

I’m actually leaning towards this being so random that it might just be brilliant. I stress might. It’s definitely better than that X-Factor horror show though!

Blackburn Rovers 0 Aston Villa 3 – 1904

One of the final few games from the 1903/04 season which Aston Villa finished 5th.

Preston North End 2 Aston Villa 0 – 1905

This game, from the 1905/06 season in which Villa finished 8th, was played on what would eventually become Armistice (Remembrance) Day. Yes, it’s almost mind boggling that the footage here pre-dates the First World War by at least 9 years!!

Amazing how little Ewood Park has changed!
