I’m not going to do a full review of the game as I often find it difficult to be as brief as I’d like. So instead I’ll assume that you’ve seen the game and/or read reports elsewhere. We were decent at times in the first half, but often a little flat. Moscow created a wonderful goal with crisp passing and movement that we would all enjoy watching endlessly if it had been scored at the other end. True to form, the lads came out in the second half and played their socks off. The equaliser from Carew was thoroughly deserved and we probably should have had one or two more.
But let’s be honest here, we were watching two very different teams last night. CSKA’s quick, one or two touch football is impressive at times and they possess the ability to unlock us at any moment, as was demonstrated in the first half. It’s obvious that no one can afford to drop their concentration for second against this outfit. There’s a reason they won all their group games, but we knew this coming in.
So it’s effectively half time in this tie and Moscow are currently winning. In theory, the advantage in the second half is theirs – it will played in the Russian cold on a plastic pitch. Am I alone in seeing 5-a-side style passing last night and concluding it probably comes from playing on astroturf??
But wait. As I’m always saying, we’re very much a second half team and our away form speaks for itself, we’re still in this tie. Make no mistake though, it’s going to take something special, but it can be done.
And to finish, I was pleased to see Shorey get another chance at left back, he had a decent game and I hope we’ll see him again in the next leg. Luke Young was back on the right, but sadly Milner was rested with a thigh strain so we didn’t get to see these two link up. If Shorey can regain his form and get back in the side regularly it’s going to improve our balance no end. Don’t underestimate the importance of this as we head into the final stages of the season. A solid, balanced platform always allows for a greater load with less effort. So, bring on Chelsea.

Unfortunately, I didn't see the game, I was stuck in work…no radio, no computer and no phone. Consequently i can only go on the tv and reading others comments.
I gather we played well, ala: Wigan game and were unlucky again, the second leg will be tough but we can prevail with determination.
