I’d like to thank Damian Dugdale of The Villa Blog for confirming what I’ve known for some time; that he has absolutely no integrity whatsoever.
Damian launched a new website today, he’s called it Aston Villa Central and you can find it at astonvillacentral.co.uk. There you’ll find links to lots of other Aston Villa websites. See what he did there? Aston Villa Central, get it? (He has actually been calling his links page Aston Villa Central for some time, but has now decided to go a bit further)

Oddly enough, you won’t find a link to Aston Villa Central at Aston Villa Central. Oh, this is confusing, isn’t it? I meant that Dugdale seems to have omitted the original .com website, this one, from his new .co.uk site. Funny, that.
Similarly, I won’t be linking to that site or any other site belonging to Damian Dugdale. I won’t be linking to thevillablog.co.uk, astonvillawallpapers.com, avfcforum.co.uk or avfcblog.com, the domain that he “sold” to Ole Ole for $60,000. He still owns that domain, but they have all that quality content so I think it’s fair to assume that he didn’t give them their money back. He got to keep all the old links though, which are vitally important to someone as SEO driven as Dugdale.
I also won’t be linking to astonvillaviews.com either, a domain that redirects to a page where he displays the content of reader submissions to his blog. It’s actually ironic that most of those submissions are, I suspect, sent in by intelligent, rational people looking to provide balance to the negative nonsense that Dugdale drip feeds day after day.
Why is it ironic? Well it’s eerily similar to astonvilla-views.com, the URL belonging to Ian Robathan’s blog, Aston Villa News & Views. So, by providing content to balance Dugdale’s delusional rantings, you’re actually assisting him in whatever it is that he’s up to. Unless I’m doing him a massive disservice and it’s just a huge coincidence.
This is the last time I will mention Damian Dugdale or anything from The Villa Blog. I’m actually vaguely impressed that for once he has displayed the balls to be entirely transparent about what absolute pond scum he is. Probably the most honest he’s been in the time that I’ve known of him.
And to Dugdale, I say this: keep visiting astonvillacentral.com regularly, I’ve got loads of exciting ideas lined up that you can try to copy, you pathetic, vindictive, duplicitous little man.
Thank you once again for confirming everything I knew about you. Enjoy your fail.

Aston Villa News 24/7

I don’t blame you Dan.
Negative isn’t the word and reading some of the so called supporters views, you’d think we were performing poorly in division 2.
Utterly depressing stuff, that goes under the guise of “balanced debate”, but is actually constant criticism imo.
You might know I got banned from his blog for pretty much constantly criticising him and even questioning if he was a Villa fan
I don’t miss it.
In fact, can I change my username to Badger, where I’m probably better known?
i’m pretty angry right now. anyone who does anything connected to the web will understand what he has done here is a big no-no. i’m not going to give him the satisfaction of an all guns blazing response though… what was it the general said about wrestling with a pig again?
there’s no point arguing with him, he’s very deliberate in what he is doing. he knows that negativity sells and all he cares about are things like page rank and unique visitors. not aston villa, he’s made that abundantly clear. arguing with him is just stoking the fires which means more drama and more page hits.
i realised this a long time ago and it was actually one of the motivating factors for creating this site.
as for your username, i can change how it displays (which i’ve done), but can’t change the username itself. i know i didn’t include the user registration stuff in the re-design, it wasn’t that high on my priority list.
you don’t have to be registered to comment though. there’s a log out link here in the comment section. you can use that if you like, then use whatever name and email address that you want to comment in the future and if there’s a gravatar associated with that email you’ll get an avatar too. it should remember whatever you last used, so you don’t have to keep typing it every time.
it’s probably something i should give some more thought to. sorry about that.
I’m clearly newer to the AVFC blogosphere and while I have noticed certain trends I’ll hold my tongue on specifics. I will say that one thing I have noticed in my years following the Seattle Mariners blogosphere is that the more sensationalist, contrarian and irrationally negative the content of a blog seems to be, the more likely it is that you will see unsavory practices such as these occurring.
There are problems with this aside from the basic and obvious issue of disrespectful behavior and unsavory practices is the fact that the more visible these views become, the more they tend to propagate and feed into people’s desire to find scapegoats, panic and the like. It’s much easier to point fingers than to exercise reason, after all.
until the last couple of years there wasn’t really a villa blogosphere as such. just him and a few forums. i think he’s showing how much he liked it that way.
i am intrigued that he’s letting his guard down enough to show everyone how low he is. perhaps he’s banking on the ignorance of people not realising how this type of thing is really scraping the barrel.
i’m not concerned, the cream will always rise to the top.
Dan, keep up the good work here – I never got into commenting on Damian’s site, but I’ve read it since before OleOle. The last 18 months on there though have become increasingly negative, and frankly, predictable/boring. I’d rather read 3 good posts a week than wade through regurgitated news and the same old cynicism.
I’ve been impressed by your blog since I started following it – and I think I’ll no longer be using “The” villa blog as my primary source for Villa-ness. Please keep doing what you’re doing here – don’t go down the route of just regurgitating news or repeating yourself just to justify yet another blog post!
thank you anotherjames, i appreciate the encouragement. i agree about posting when there’s something to post about, but google does love fresh content!
and i saw your comments on twitter too. funny, he stopped showing @ replies in the sidebar shortly afterward.
Yeah, haha, I noticed that too
I stopped following Damian when he refused to call players by their actual name and tried to force his god-awful nicknames for them. I think the post that forced me to give up on him was when he was talking about the Ashley Young transfer rumours and kept calling him “Webcam” all through the post. I would expect crap like that from the Sun, and with so much good football writing on the Internet, why should I bother reading stuff like that?
yes, a joke’s a joke, but like everything there, it wears thin very quickly. pretty disrespectful, juvenile and, funny you should mention the sun, it’s very tabloid-like too. still, the sun is britain’s best selling paper, isn’t it?
Yeah he does seem to be a douche most of the time.
indeed, of the nozzle variety.
Dan keep up the good work, it’s a pleasure to read something that is articulate, well thought out and balanced. You have confirmed what I suspected of Mr. Dugdale.
Fight the good fight and don’t let the gutter press sensationalists drag you down
thank you. yes, henceforth, he’s no longer worthy of even a mention. he’s demonstrated exactly where he sits in the grand scheme of things: in the gutter.
Good man Dan. I hope to meet Damian one day to offer my opinion of him. He is just pathetic, must see you as a threat.
heheh, i wouldn’t mind 5 minutes alone with him too!!
it didn’t need to be this way. most of us bloggers agree that we all have something different to offer and there’s room for all of us. damo sees it differently.
