With the headlines currently being dominated by Mark Hughes’ resignation from Fulham and the inevitable linkage to the Villa Park vacancy (I’m not convinced by the way), it’s easy to miss other news going on today.

Actually, this one is barely more than a footnote on German website RP Online, but it’s being reported that we will exercise our option to purchase Michael Bradley permanently from Borussia Mönchengladbach for a fee of €5m which includes the loan period.

The Google translation reads:

Marcel Meeuwis and Michael Bradley, who were also hired in the winter come back. Aston Villa has taken the option to purchase Bradley, including the transfer of the loan fee brings one around five million euros.

Obviously we’ll have wait for official confirmation, but that’s unlikely to happen before we have a new manager. Yes, that raises obvious questions, I know.

I know that Bradley hasn’t really shown much so far – he hasn’t had a great deal of opportunity – but he’s genuinely a decent player and I could see him being an asset for sure. He’s currently part of the United States’ Gold Cup squad, along with Eric Lichaj, and should be in action this weekend against Spain.

It’s never dull being an Aston Villa supporter these days. What summer break?

If true, this is good news. I know that fans aren’t sold on Bradley (his accent alone makes him suspect, eh?) but he is proven on the International stage and at a minimum can be a solid squad player for us.

The more solid players with up-side potential that we can lock-up for minimal cost, the better. Only one or two need to be break-outs, the others just doing a job when asked.

and he’ll work his arse off to force his way into the first team reckoning regularly. he’s definitely a grafter.

You have to figure with NRC gone, bradley is a direct replacement for that position at half the cost wage wise

that’s how i see it. and, of course, the decision not to renew NRC’s contract since he wanted more than was on offer was made just the other day.

Sorry Bradley was dire every time he played. I was embarrassed for him when he came on against Blackpool he was that bad.

This can’t be true we haven’t got a Manager.

he’s played 83 101 minutes for us and 70 of those were at eastlands where just about everyone was awful.

he’s a decent player, he really is.

also, the milner/ireland deal went through without a manager. why? because the wheels were already well in motion.

if you look at the squad list on the OS you’ll find that kyle walker was removed, but michael bradley wasn’t. both technically on loan. maybe it was already known that one would be staying and the other wouldn’t be.
