Statshack – Burnley 1 Aston Villa 1

Written by Dan on November 23, 2009

From a statistical perspective, probably one of the most even games you’ll see. It’s fair to say that Burnley edged the first half and Villa the second, 1-1 has to be regarded as a fair result.

As I mentioned in the first review, Burnley had a home record coming into this game of played 6, won 6 5, so we managed to resist that trend at least. [Edit: My mistake, Burnley have lost at home… to Wigan, if you can believe that after their tanking at White Hart Lane]

Tottenham’s destruction of Wigan yesterday just highlights the unpredictable nature of football (and this season’s Premiership in particular) and proves exactly why I resist prophesying as much as possible. We beat Chelsea, Chelsea beat Tottenham, Wigan beat us and Tottenham destroy Wigan. There’s no logic there at all.

Anyway, it was great to see Downing come on briefly and fantastic for Heskey to rescue the point. Next up, the small matter of the rampant Tottenham coming to Villa Park.

Oh, and someone stick a fork in Steve Sidwell, he may well be done.
