Aston Villa 3 Everton 3

If you were a neutral watching this game then you would probably have thoroughly enjoyed the spectacle. You could say the same about a good many games featuring Aston Villa this season though, couldn’t you?? I’ve thought about how to review this game and decided that the goal timings probably tell as much of the story as you need to know:-

19′ Fellaini
23′ Cahill
33′ Carew
53′ Pienaar
55′ Milner
67′ Barry (pen)

So, the result is that Villa & Everton remain in 5th & 6th respectively, a point apart. It’s now up to Villa to pick up at least as many points as Everton in the final 6 games to remain ahead. That’s very doable. As they say, it’s in our own hands.

MON has pretty much given up on 4th spot (or at least he says so) and since that will now involve scoring 9 points more than Arsenal in 6 games he’s probably right. Not impossible, but it would be remarkable to say the very least.

But today the team showed the grit and spirit required to fight back and they’ll need that attitude for the rest of the season just to hang on to 5th. If they do that though, and Arsenal slip enough, then 4th might just be there. To use another cliché though, it’s Arsenal’s to lose.
