Aston Villa Transfer Deadline Day Live
Written by Dan on February 1, 2010
As I wasn’t really expecting much today this wasn’t planned, but a few names are being thrown around in connection with Aston Villa today, so I figured we could use Twitter to keep us up to speed.
Below the fold you’ll find a widget for anyone who is interesting at the moment. Michael Owen and Nicky Shorey being the prime examples right now. If I spot anything else interesting on Twitter, I’ll drag it in here to share.
- Don’t forget that The Villa Wire automatically picks up all the latest Aston Villa news and is refreshed every 15 minutes.
UPDATE: Nicky Shorey confirmed on loan at Fulham, but crucially with an option to make the move permanent in the summer.
Nicky Shorey joined Fulham on loan in January until the end of the 2009/10 Barclays Premier League season, with an option to buy following the loan spell with the Whites.
I think this from BBC’s live page around 3.45pm is very telling:-
BBC Sport’s Simon Austin: “I’ve just been to interview a sports consultant at Deloitte. They estimate only £21m has been spent in the January transfer window so far, compared to £170m last year and £150m in January 2008. There haven’t been any £10m signings this year and only one for £5m, which Spurs paid Portsmouth for Younes Kaboul. There were seven £10m signings last January – three were made by Manchester City (Nigel de Jong, Craig Bellamy and Wayne Bridge), three by Spurs (Wilson Palacios, Jermain Defoe and Robbie Keane) and one by Arsenal (Andrey Arshavin).
5pm: One of the quietest transfer window slams shut and unless something has flown remarkably low under the radar, there’s nothing else to report. Now back to the business of winning football games I think!!
