I’m extremely excited to have the scoop on this, although I should admit it’s through a friend connected to the sponsor rather than any inside information from Villa Park.
I’ve just got off the phone with my friend in San Francisco (yes, it’s just after 5am there right now, she’s not overly happy with my guerrilla tactics) and she confirmed to me that her employers are in advanced negotiations with Randy Lerner to put their name on the front of Aston

Here’s what has been catching my eye in the last couple of days.
Little Impressed
One of our better managers during the Premiership years, an ex-player himself, Brian Little says that he’s impressed at Villa resurgence over the last few years and happy that we’re back in the mix among the top teams in the table. [Sporting Life]
He’s Not The Messiah
Gabriele Marcotti, who is a competent, but not outstanding writer, makes the case that MON is a competent, but not outstanding manager.

Here’s the news that’s caught my eye in the last couple of days.
Martin O’Neill Rumour
I didn’t plan on touching this as it’s just some silliness from a forum. However, it was repeated by a couple of blogs for reasons best known to the bloggers in question and now the bastion of journalism that is The Daily Mirror are reporting that Martin O’Neill has quit. Martin O’Neill is now a trending topic on Twitter in the UK.
I’ll stick my neck

James Collins just made an apology on Twitter:-
so sorry to every villa fan after that appalling performance,im embarrassed to call myself a footballer after that rubbish…sorry.
Speaks volumes about the man. I don’t really need to add to that, I’ll let it speak for itself, but all I will say is that I hope they use this as motivation for the rest of the season. If they do, and they go on to finish the season in style, I

Ex-Villan David Ginola just took part in the draw for the FA Cup Semi-Final and Aston Villa will play Chelsea… thanks David!!
In the other Semi-Final, Portsmouth will take on Spurs or Fulham.
Both matches will be played at Wembley Stadium over the weekend of 10 April and 11 April.
I suppose we haven’t done bad with cup draws so far this season, so it was probably inevitable that we would draw Chelsea. But there you go, they always say that you

No major theme to address today, but a handful of stories that are worth touching on briefly.
Firstly, young Nathan Baker, who is currently out on loan at Lincoln, has suffered the embarrassment of being caught trying to sell his allocation of Carling Cup Final tickets on Facebook. He didn’t actually have the tickets in his hands and not only will he now not be getting them, he won’t be going to Wembley himself either. He’s also had to issue an

Crystal Palace beat Wolves 3-1 in their FA Cup 4th Round replay to earn themselves a home tie against Aston Villa in the 5th Round. The tie will be played at Selhurst Park on Sunday 14th February – sounds like an ideal romantic day out to me!!
I was rooting for Crystal Palace to make it through the tie for a few reasons. Firstly, no disrespect to them, but I think they’ll be the easier opponent, not least because

As I wasn’t really expecting much today this wasn’t planned, but a few names are being thrown around in connection with Aston Villa today, so I figured we could use Twitter to keep us up to speed.
Below the fold you’ll find a widget for anyone who is interesting at the moment. Michael Owen and Nicky Shorey being the prime examples right now. If I spot anything else interesting on Twitter, I’ll drag it in here to share.
Don’t forget that

I know there’s many of you patiently negotiating your way though the process of booking tickets for the Carling Cup Final next month. Hopefully it will be worth the effort and we now know our opponent will be Man Utd after Wayne Rooney inevitably scored the winner in injury time at Old Trafford.
So there’s a date for your diary: Sunday February 28th at Wembley Stadium. Aston Villa vs Man Utd in the Carling Cup 2010 Final.
In case you
