I wouldn’t normally want to drag up old batterings from the past, but this game at Highbury contained a slightly unusual incident. With the game at 4-0, Nigel Spink was injured in a challenge with Kevin Campbell – interesting to note Brian Moore’s keenness to exonerate Campbell of any blame, not sure that would be the case with a similar tackle today – and without a substitute goalkeeper available, David Platt takes over between the sticks.

Flashback: Luton Town 2 Aston Villa 1 – 1983

It may well seem like a shameless plug once again, but I really do use The Villa Wire myself and I just spotted this little gem in the Flickr feed:-

What you’re looking at is Kenilworth Road on the 9th April 1983 and I think that’s Colin Gibson in the foreground. The scoreboard reveals the game is all square at 1-1 when this snap was taken, but thanks to a late winner from David Moss – shown in the video
