There’s a little bit of déjà vu all over again for Gabby today after he hits the winner at St Andrew’s in the last 5 minutes of the derby game. His header to beat Joe Hart might not have been as emphatic as his ’07 winner, but it means just as much.
It was probably a more even game than most Villa fans were comfortable with, but ultimately the class prevailed. Personally, I was fearful that MON’s surprising back

I haven’t had chance to do a full review of the game just yet, but I’ve got the basics in place for a stats review I’d like to run regularly. There’s still some work to go, and I’ve yet to nail down the sources for the data, but this will give you a basic idea of what I’d like to produce as soon as possible after games (time permitting):-

Villa beat Fulham 2 – 0 at Villa Park today to close out August in 8th place in the Premiership before a two week International break. As far as the league goes, I think most would have reluctantly taken 6 points from the the first 3 games, although they probably wouldn’t have predicted where the points would have come from.
Villa got off to the best of starts when a mix up at the back by Fulham led to a

The good news is that Aston Villa won, making two on the trot now. The bad news is that the 2-1 scoreline wasn’t enough and the Villans have been knocked out of Europe at the first hurdle on the dreaded away goals rule. Actually, it’s not so much a crash as a whimper.
The reality is that we’ve witnessed 6 hours of competitive football from Villa in 2009/10 and we’ve seen one solitary goal from open play. Pretty

Firstly, Liverpool were below par, but take nothing away from Aston Villa, they truly delivered on their promises tonight at Anfield. This was a demonstration in grit, determination, spirit and skill and proved the detractors wrong.
However, football matches can so often pivot on a single incident and had Benayoun nodded in his first minute effort, it’s difficult to believe a Villa side so lacking in confidence would have pulled the game back. It sailed wide though and Villa

Full review to follow, but for now just know that Villa were very worthy winners tonight at Anfield and will hopefully take a lot of confidence to kick start the season now. True grit and determination all around the pitch, can’t fault a single player.
For now, I’m going to enjoy the cries of woe on Twitter and I’ll paste the best ones here during the course of the evening. Enjoy…
There’s actually way too many to keep up with

Villa got off to the worst of starts in Vienna tonight. 15 seconds. That’s all it took for Rapid Vienna to take the lead.
From kick off they ran into Reo-Coker in front of the back four forcing the ball to be spread out to their left. The ball was whipped in early and it fell neatly on to the head of Jelavic to nod in. I say ‘fell neatly’ mainly because Curtis Davies was flat on

I waited many hours after the game to write this so it wouldn’t get bogged down in negativity. I’ve just been reading the 1,100 words I’ve written and decided to start again. I failed to keep the negativity under control. I’ve yet to complete part two of my season expectations and I don’t want this one game to change my outlook. It shouldn’t either, one game does not make a season.
Let’s keep it simple. We lost
