The young lions cruised through the group stage of the Hong Kong Soccer 7’s with the best record of all 16 teams; winning all three games, scoring nine and conceding none in the process. Andreas Weimann and Harry Forrester bagged four each and Jonathan Hogg grabbed the ninth.

Summary

Slightly disappointing to come away with nothing after some very strong performances by the sounds of things.

As far as I could tell, the Villans battered Celtic for much of the Cup quarter final game, their keeper, Feely, forced to make a string of impressive saves to keep the game goalless. He then went on to save three penalties in the shoot out.

Villa then dropped into the consolation Shield competition and brushed aside Boca Juniors 5-0 to set up a final against Citizen, who they’d already beaten 2-0 in the final group game.

Unfortunately, they conceded their only goal from open play during the whole tournament in the first couple of minutes and weren’t able to get back on terms during the match.

Interestingly, Kitchee, the fourth side in this Summer’s Barclays Asia Trophy, made it to the final, beating Rangers and Liverpool, and pulled off something of an upset by beating Celtic 1-0 to lift the trophy.
