Wigan 1 Aston Villa 2

All the games we’re playing right now are the reverse fixtures of games we played earlier in the season. Nothing out of the ordinary about that, but this was one 2nd leg match I was anxious to get to. You can probably already guess why, but if not; if there was any game this season I’d like a do-over on, it’s the opening day clash against Wigan at Villa Park.

I wondered after that game whether I’d done Wigan a

James Collins Wallpaper

James Collins joins the Aston Villa Central wallpaper collection for the first time and is one of the first to now also be available in 1920×1200 on top of the usual resolutions.  This is also the first brand new wallpaper to be added to the new mini-site.

The Premiership Seven

There’s seven teams that have taken part in every Premiership season since it’s inception in 1992: Arsenal, Aston Villa, Chelsea, Everton, Liverpool, Man Utd and Tottenham. You probably knew that and you may well also know that in all time points Aston Villa lie 5th. Even if you didn’t, you can certainly guess which 4 teams lie ahead of us, right?

Since it’s the only constant in every Premiership season I decided to check out how many points we’ve

Statshack – Stoke 0 Aston Villa 0

I only knock these Statshacks up for Premiership games, can you believe that it’s almost 3 weeks since the last one?  No wonder we have all these games to make up this month!

This one shows more domination from Villa than I was expecting with 60% of possession and a CPS of 65%, which pretty much means we outpassed them 2:1. Someone let me know when they start awarding points for that though!

I watched the headlines flowing through Twitter after

Stoke 0 Aston Villa 0

A frustrating game that never really got going ended in a far from unpredictable goalless draw.  Not one for fans of sexy, total football this one that’s for sure.  A point is a point and we’re unbeaten, but I was expecting a burst of energy and quality that would expose Stoke and in the final analysis it never really arrived.

There’s an important distinction between tiredness, at least in the physical sense, and fatigue.  I think we’re seeing a team struggling

Friday Round Up

I apologise for the lack of posts the last couple of days, I’ve been furiously coding and I’m reasonably optimistic that I can start shipping components of the new site live today. If all goes to plan (and I use the word ‘plan’ in the absolute loosest sense of the word) I could well be in a position to switch over completely late tonight. If that’s the case then there will be an hour or two of downtime,

Sublime To Ridiculous – March Madness

Now that the curse is over I’m expecting Aston Villa to go from one extreme to the other.  We may have never won a game in March under Martin O’Neill before Sunday’s FA Cup victory over Reading, but if you’ve looked at the fixture list you may be feeling the same as me.

I don’t blame MON’s little whine about fixture congestion, what sort of manager would he be if he didn’t, but he knows that this only happens to the

Footballers According To Google Suggest

If you use the internet much then chances are high that you use Google at least every now and again. You may have noticed that the search giant often wants to help you with your searches by making suggestions to complete your phrase. This gives you a glimpse into the zeigeit as it’s based on what everyone else is searching for.

I stumbled on a suggestion for one of our players last night which caused me to check out

Is Winning Everything?

In short, no.

Then again, maybe it is… eventually.

Maybe no one really remembers the runner-up, but they’re rightly rewarded with cold hard currency which is needed to help finance next year’s campaigns.  I’ve never made a secret of my opposition to the rich benefactor approach or my pride at the Villa way of doing things right now.  I’m pretty certain that I’m not in the minority there.

I want to see Aston Villa challenging for titles at home and abroad as much
