Aston Villa January Transfers Ruled Out, Now What To Speculate About?

Martin O’Neill has revealed that he’s not looking to bring in any new faces during January and is equally uninterested in selling anyone from his current squad. So, if salivating over potential new signings in your bag, what’s left to speculate about?

And in 5… 4… 3… 2… 1… ‘Aston Villa haven’t got any money!!  Randy Lerner isn’t “investing” enough money into the club.’

Call me a cynic, call me clairvoyant if you like, but should MON prove true to his latest

Wigan Game Off And Togo Withdraw From African Nations Cup

Wigan had gone to a great deal of effort and expense to counter the freak weather conditions around the stadium to ensure today’s fixture with Aston Villa would go ahead. Unfortunately, all that work came to nothing last night as the under soil heating system failed in a major way and could not be fixed. In the end it was left to the elements over night with a pitch inspection in the morning to decide whether the game

Moustapha Salifou – King Of Awesome

As the story of the attack on the Togo national team coach broke today I couldn’t help put myself in the situation of the athletes on board.  OK, there may be questions asked about driving through a volatile region, but as professional athletes travelling during a tournament, surely none of them really expected to have their coach sprayed with machine gun fire.  In fact, for that matter, apart from soldiers and mercenaries, who really does expect to have “machine gun

Togo Bus Attacked By Angolan Rebel Soldiers

I don’t normally jump on sensational stories like this, but most readers will be aware the affection I hold for Moustapha Salifou and I’m not alone by any means.

I’ll update this post as we learn more, but it’s being reported that the Togolese national team bus has been attacked by Angolan rebel soldiers armed with machine guns and there are some injuries.

I don’t know for sure at this stage, but I’m fairly certain that our very own Salifou would have

Transfer Speculation Done Right – Posh Want Lichaj

Look at this BBC article, they’ve got quotes and everything!!

Peterborough United manager Mark Cooper is on record on BBC Radio Cambridgeshire saying that he wants to sign Eric Lichaj, presumably having seen him play during his loan spell at Lincoln:-

He’s been on loan at Lincoln and is definitely one we’re after. But he’s in and around the Villa squad and we’re trying to persuade them to let him out.

See? It’s easy really. Of course, it probably helps

Oh Look, Another Made Up Rumour About John Carew

Well, this is ironic. Just recently I had a brief discussion with Ian Robathan on his blog about the John Carew to Fenerbahce rumour and since he seemed determined to give the story more credibility than it warranted I suggested that he was guilty of a little confirmation bias.

Nothing wrong with his opinion about John Carew, everyone is entitled to an opinion and I don’t necessarily disagree with assessment with the player at the moment. However, the story

Martin O’Neill – Great Manager, Or Greatest Manager?

I don’t know about you, but when you’re as easily distracted as I am it’s hard to get anything done. Earlier today I was researching some statistics when I stumbled on this fantastic graph which shows Aston Villa’s Goal Difference from the Premiership years plotted cumulatively.

No single statistic can accurately depict much in football, let alone going on for two decades worth of performance in the top flight. However, it’s inescapably true that the teams with the best

Aston Villa vs Blackburn Semi-Final Falls Victim To Snow

Today’s Carling Cup Semi-Final between Aston Villa and Blackburn at Ewood Park has been called off due to snow. I’m sure that Ewood Park probably has under-soil heating, but Police were advising people not to travel in the region unless they really had to. When that’s the case, unfortunately the game has to be postponed.

The 2nd leg, to be played at Villa Park, is scheduled for Wednesday 20th January. Next week looks clear so this game may well

Salifou’s Weekly Round-Up #4

Bonjour!! My name is Moustapha Sali-Salifou, but my friends call me Keith and I’m back for my (not so) weekly review. Hoo-hah!!

First of all, where are my manners? HAPPY NEW YEAR!!! I hope you all had a most excellent festive period.

I have had a splendid Christmas!! I should say thank you to the travelling Aston Villa fans who spotted me in the Emirates Stadium on the 27th and sang my name although you did get me in trouble
