Aston Villa 5 Bolton 1 – Review

Aside from blotting their copy books by giving up a sloppy goal, Villa ticked all the right boxes today. It doesn’t seem very long ago I was suggesting our slightly jaded looking side needed to deliver an absolute thumping to an unfortunate victim in order to restore some confidence.

What we need, I think, is the confidence that can be derived from dishing out a real spanking. One of those games where everything goes right and finishes in a 4

Salifou’s Weekly Round-Up #2

Bonjour!! You must remember me, my name is Moustapha Sali-Salifou, but my friends call me Keith and I’m back for my (not so) weekly review. Hoo-hah!!

Isaiah Osbourne – My very good friend may have been a bit naughty recently, I think that’s why he is always telling me how “gangsta” he is and makes me give him my lunch money. Anyway, he is going to somewhere called Middlesbrough for two months. Seems a harsh punishment to me, I

Statshack – West Ham 2 Aston Villa 1

The average position map reflects the fact that 53% of Villa’s attack went down the left channel. Considering Ashley Young pretty much spent the first 45 minutes on the right wing, that’s some achievement.

Again, since MON made a change at half time, Reo-Coker on for Heskey, I’ve included 12 players on the map. You can see how lop sided and unbalanced the shape is. Can’t help feeling sorry for Habib Beye.

Squad Rotation

It doesn’t matter how you approach research, it’s almost impossible not to have a pre-conceived notion in your mind about what you’re going to find. Sometimes you’ll even be looking specifically for data to back up a position or opinion you already hold.

Personally, what I really enjoy about research is when I find that the raw data doesn’t match what I expected to find and challenges the ideas I had formed. In simple terms; I find that I’m

West Ham 2 Aston Villa 1 – Review

This one is a tough pill to swallow, folks. Lots of incidents to discuss, not so much football. Where to start?

Teamsheet seems like a good place – Friedel, Beye, Collins, Dunne, Warnock, Young, Heksey, Petrov, Sidwell, Agbonlahor and Carew. Ash played on the right in place of the injured Milner with Heskey on the left flank. I would say that the Warnock / Heskey combination down the left worked a little better than the Beye /

West Ham vs Aston Villa – Preview

I figured this match was worth doing a very quick preview for since there’s one or two interesting factors at play.

James Collins and Nigel Reo-Coker return to their old club, one more welcome back than the other I feel. Hopefully both players will remind the home fans what they’re missing. For me, Collins has been a revelation and perhaps he is even surprising one or two Hammer fans with his performances now he’s in a real Claret and

Aston Villa Advert Derserves More Views

I was just doing a little house keeping of stuff cluttering up my desktop and I found a link to this official video from the club that is really quite a polished piece of work. I’d certainly be very happy if I had made it, but it’s only had 374 views since March ’09!!

Despite it apparently being a teaser for the 2009/10 season, it was outdated before a ball was kicked by featuring Laursen and Barry, but that’s football

Trouble at t’Browns

I should probably preface this post by being entirely honest about my lack of knowledge regarding the American version of football, however it’s fair to say that the Cleveland Browns aren’t a very good team at the moment. Actually, that may be being kind to them, people on this side of the pond would no doubt use much courser language and they haven’t been very good for some time.

Randy Lerner inherited the franchise in 2002 after his father, Al
