Thanks to EPL Talk I stumbled on the fact that Sky Sports News have just released an iPhone app. I was already using ESPN’s Score Center app, which I’ll continue to use as it is more customizable, but from what I’ve seen so far, the more streamlined, football focused app from Sky runs more quickly.
Not sure why we need Jeff Stelling staring at us on every screen, but it’s a pretty cool app. It’s available from the App

I’m deliberately using the word ‘expectation’ in place of ‘prediction’. Predicting the result of a single game with all of the possible variables is folly, but we all do it on an “all things being equal” basis. All things most certainly are not equal though. Bookmakers know this, it’s why they offer us the opportunity to wager on our predictions and they make a healthy living. Even a “dead cert” can fail to deliver. Over

I can haz Aston Villa Avatars?
I’m working on a new set of Aston Villa player avatars in spare moments here and there. I thought I’d share the first batch. Don’t ask me why I picked these players, they were just the most convenient at the time I think.
Most forums and blogs have some kind of restriction on avatar dimensions, so I’ve created these in 100×100, 75×75 and 50×50 pixels which will hopefully have you covered. They’re in PNG

This time last year I seem to remember a lot of us fans scouring the squad list announcement for clues and homing in on the vacant number 8 spot. This time it’s Laursen’s number 5, but let’s face it, everyone knows we need to find a top notch replacement for Laursen!
Just as interesting, Stewart Downing takes whatshisface’s old number 6.
And in my best DJ voice:- Marc Albrighton is this week’s highest climber, moving up from 45 to number 12!!

I was just flipping through my Tweets a little earlier and this one from the Birmingham Mail caught my eye:-
Mmmm, that doesn’t sound very good, does it? That sounds very much like the Olympic Organising Committee is kicking Villa Park to the curb for some reason, no? Whatever could be the problem?
Surprise, surprise, the headline doesn’t quite match the story. Second and third paragraphs (which is really where all tabloid articles start, the first paragraph

Separated at birth – Emile Heskey and Wallace:-
You only have to cast your mind back to the final day of January this year to recall this fixture from last season, which is useful as it allows me to showcase a nifty little feature of the blog. If you click on the ‘last match’ or ‘next match’ links in the sidebar on the right you will be taken to all the content I have for that game. That might contain previews, reviews, wallpapers, videos, basically anything

A disclaimer about this blog post: For the first time in quite a while I don’t have any video or audio for this game, so I’m writing this post while refreshing commentary on the OS. To that end, this will be less of a review, more the random ramblings of a Villan suffering cold turkey from competitive football. One week to go!!
An interesting starting XI for this game. Certainly not quite what I was expecting:-
Heskey
Agbonlahor
A Young
Delph
Gardner
Milner
Shorey
Clark
Cuellar
Lichaj
Friedel

This is it folks. The last friendly warm-up game before the new Premiership season kicks off on August 15th when Wigan Athletic visit Villa Park. Fiorentina are a good side to finish pre-season against. They’ll provide decent opposition and allow Martin O’Neill to get a good feel for how his men can perform against both Wigan and Villa’s second competitive opponent of the season; Rapid Vienna.
Fiorentina will be playing in the Champions League this season courtesy of
