Villans on international duty in February and updated Premier League squad

Written by Dan on February 6, 2011

The 9th of February is a FIFA scheduled interlull and we have quite a number of players called up to their senior national teams:

Firstly, Darrent Bent, Gabby Agbonlahor, Ashley Young, Stewart Downing and Kyle Walker were called up to the England squad travelling to Copenhagen to play Denmark.

Kyle Walker had previously been named in the Under-21 squad heading to Italy which includes Fabian Delph, Marc Albrighton and Nathan Delfouneso.

Republic of Ireland, Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales play the first fixtures of the Nations Cup at the Aviva Stadium in Dublin. Ireland play Wales on Tuesday and Northern Ireland will play Scotland on Wednesday.

Ciaran Clark and Richard Dunne are in the Ireland squad, James Collins will travel to Dublin with Wales and Barry Bannan is in the Scotland squad.

Jean Makoun was called up as a replacement into the Cameroon squad to play Macedonia on Wednesday.

United States were due to play Egypt in Cairo, but that match has been cancelled for obvious reasons.

Premier League squad

Clubs are required to submit their squad lists on the first day after each transfer window. There aren’t any issues, but since I reported on the September squad, here’s the latest squad list (remember, it’s just the players over 21):

Goalkeepers: Brad Friedel, Brad Guzan, Andy Marshall.

Defenders: Habib Beye, James Collins, Carlos Cuellar, Richard Dunne, Eric Lichaj, Stephen Warnock, Luke Young.

Midfielders: Michael Bradley, Moustapha Salifou, Stewart Downing, Jonathan Hogg, Isaiah Osbourne, Stiliyan Petrov, Nigel Reo-Coker, Jean Makoun, Ashley Young, Robert Pires.

Forwards: Gabby Agbonlahor, Emile Heskey, Darren Bent.

That’s 23 players over 21 years old listed, I’m guessing a recall clause wasn’t included in John Carew and Stephen Ireland’s loan deals. Regardless, they won’t be able to play for Aston Villa again this season.
