One of the great things about football (sometimes) is the variety of opinions, some more valid than others. Fans are particularly vociferous in expressing those opinions after a loss. I’ve read them all. Take your pick of the players not playing yesterday; that’s why we lost. We missed Albrighton. We missed Collins. We missed a big man in the middle. Downing should play on the left. Ireland is rubbish.
If only it were that

I joked on Twitter after the game that I just couldn’t be bothered writing this, making me the Stephen Ireland of the blogosphere. Sometimes things are funny because they’re true, sometimes they’re not funny for precisely the same reason. I’m not laughing much right now.
I didn’t get chance to do a preview post yesterday, but I figured having played Blackburn so many times last season we all ought to have a good idea what we’d be in for.

So far so good. Aston Villa have the advantage at what is effectively half time in their Carling Cup Semi-Final tie with Blackburn Rovers after winning 1-0 at Ewood Park tonight. Blackburn really didn’t look like they have much fight in them for much of the game and we have to be cautiously optimistic that we will be booking ourselves a trip to Wembley when the final whistle is blown at Villa Park next Wednesday night. Cautiously optimistic, but

Finally, we’re going to get so see some Aston Villa today. FINALLY!! This will be a blog post which I’ll just update bits and pieces throughout the day as we head towards kick off tonight at Ewood Park. It seems like forever since we last had a game, which incidentally was Blackburn at Villa Park on January 2nd. Just in case you couldn’t remember.
One little story that’s bouncing around the Twittersphere as I write surrounds Nathan Delfouneso‘s stated

With the football schedule in the UK recently decimated by the freaky weather it feels like we haven’t seen the Villa play for ages. Whether the fact that the squad have travelled up to Blackburn and Wigan, only to have the games cancelled, will have any adverse effect when they finally get another crack at Ewood Park on Thursday remains to be seen. Obviously we hope not.
We’re assured that Man City will play their game in hand today

Today’s Carling Cup Semi-Final between Aston Villa and Blackburn at Ewood Park has been called off due to snow. I’m sure that Ewood Park probably has under-soil heating, but Police were advising people not to travel in the region unless they really had to. When that’s the case, unfortunately the game has to be postponed.
The 2nd leg, to be played at Villa Park, is scheduled for Wednesday 20th January. Next week looks clear so this game may well

I’m deliberately late with this post as I didn’t want to make it too easy to spot this game in the formation challenge. In case you were wondering, it was (D).
You may notice that the formation shown in the average position map for this game probably more closely resembles a 4-4-1-1 with John Carew apparently in the deep striker role. As a recent commenter correctly pointed out, there will be factors that influence the average position, sometimes distorting the

Aston Villa threw away a massive opportunity to take an invaluable three points at Ewood Park today and instead came away with nothing after a penalty in the closing minutes gifted 10-man Blackburn a 2-1 victory.
Gabby again got Villa off to the best of starts in the opening minutes. The in-form striker cleverly moved from an offside position just before James Milner flicked on a long ball with his head. Gabby’s shot initially looked like it was just

A well earned 2-0 victory extends the away record to seven consecutive victories. Elsewhere, Chelsea are held by Hull. 13 games to go and this Aston Villa side are still cruising.
