Chelsea 3 Aston Villa 3: 2011 kicks off with a bang

Maybe, just maybe, it’s time to put the doom and gloom of the latter part of 2010 to bed and look forward to a bright 2011. We were certainly treated to the sort of spirit and determination that abandoned our side of late as the boys fought against an inexplicably inept refereeing performance to grab a last ditch point thanks to Ciaran Clark.

Villa had fallen behind early, just as they appeared to be shedding early nerves and impose themselves

FA Youth Cup Final 2nd Leg: Chelsea 2 Aston Villa 1 (Agg: 3-2)

What a season it’s been. The senior side made it to the Carling Cup final and FA Cup semi-final. The reserves won the southern league title, but lost the play-off final against their northern counterparts, Man Utd, at Old Trafford. And tonight the academy side lost to Chelsea in the second leg of the FA Youth Cup final in front of 12,500 mostly Blues fans at Stamford Bridge.

Close, but no cigar at every level this season.

The Longest Week

It’s not easy to simply forget about that horrendous result at the weekend and move on, especially as a fresh wave of headlines roll in this Monday, but that’s pretty much what we have to do. Conceding 7 goals for the first time in 46 years during a season in which we were able to boast the meanest defence in the league is clearly a complete aberration, there’s no credible argument to the contrary. That doesn’t make it

A Little Perspective

7-1. Seven – One. Wow, that’s the worst beating I’ve ever seen Aston Villa take. We conceded 5 in the Premiership just 5 times before. If you go back to the pre-Premiership days, there were a couple of games in which we conceded 6 in the last few decades, but the last time we shipped 7? October 1964, Old Trafford.

Yesterday was actually the 9th time that we’ve conceded 7 away from home in the league, we’ve never

Statshack – Chelsea 7 Aston Villa 1

No narrative from me this time, what can you really say to provide any kind of worthwhile analysis? It was a freak result that doesn’t reflect our part in proceedings? Don’t believe me? Compare the numbers below with the statistics from the 2-1 victory over Chelsea at Villa Park back in October.

I guess sometimes it’s a really fine line between a great victory and a humiliating drubbing.

Incidentally, apart from Luke Young in at right back in place of Carlos

James Collins Apologises To Villa Fans

James Collins just made an apology on Twitter:-

so sorry to every villa fan after that appalling performance,im embarrassed to call myself a footballer after that rubbish…sorry.

Speaks volumes about the man. I don’t really need to add to that, I’ll let it speak for itself, but all I will say is that I hope they use this as motivation for the rest of the season. If they do, and they go on to finish the season in style, I
