Martin O’Neil has been describing it as his most important week since joining Aston Villa and while I wouldn’t rush to disagree, with our season apparently continually hinging on our next game, which weeks aren’t important?
However, with a resurgent Everton now chasing on our heels, three points against Burnley tomorrow are, well, just as important as they were before Everton beat Man Utd today. It remains to be seen whether Everton can maintain their form should Landon Donovan return

Aston Villa fought back from being behind twice to earn themselves a replay of this FA Cup Fifth Round tie after finishing 2-2 at Selhurst Park today against a spirited Crystal Palace side.
Martin O’Neill showed respect for Palace and the competition by sending out a very strong side, with Friedel taking over goal keeping duties, it could perhaps be interpreted as a signal of his thinking for the Carling Cup Final in two weeks time. Then again, this is

Crystal Palace beat Wolves 3-1 in their FA Cup 4th Round replay to earn themselves a home tie against Aston Villa in the 5th Round. The tie will be played at Selhurst Park on Sunday 14th February – sounds like an ideal romantic day out to me!!
I was rooting for Crystal Palace to make it through the tie for a few reasons. Firstly, no disrespect to them, but I think they’ll be the easier opponent, not least because

Aston Villa will be in tomorrow’s FA Cup 5th round draw after cruising past Brighton and Hove Albion at Villa Park today. Don’t let the scoreline fool you. As suspected, MON rang the changes to give some tired legs a much needed rest and employed a fairly unusual system:-
Delfouneso
Downing
A Young
Sidwell
Albrighton
Delph
Warnock
Collins
Beye
L Young
Guzan
The introduction of Albrighton and Delfouneso paid dividends almost immediately with Albrighton feeding the forward to open the scoring inside the first 5 minutes. Unfortunately the wing

Since we’re all probably still riding on a high from achieving our first Wembley final in 10 years, can anyone think of the link from that game to this one? Answer at the bottom.
Alright, word on the street is that MON will ring the changes and rest some very tired legs after Wednesday’s heroics. Quite right too. From the sounds of things, Fabian Delph will be starting in the middle with either Reo-Coker or Steve Sidwell alongside

Martin O’Neill took the opportunity to send a much changed Aston Villa side out to face Blackburn in the FA Cup 3rd Round at Villa Park today and it paid off with a 3-1 victory. Clearly with an eye on Tuesday’s Carling Cup Semi-Final 1st leg at Ewood Park, MON gave some periphery players a run out with James Milner and Gabby Agbonlahor not even asked to sit on the bench.

Through some weird twist of fate Aston Villa were not drawn against Man Utd in the Third Round of the FA Cup with Blackburn instead coming to Villa Park. Theoretically this presents a greater possibility to progress, but it’s Cup football, all bets are off as far as I’m concerned.

Tottenham v Peterborough United
Brentford v Doncaster Rovers
Middlesbrough v Manchester City
Stoke City v York City
Notts County v Forest Green Rovers
Huddersfield Town v West Bromwich Albion
