You’ll all be aware by now that Luke Young and Jonathan Hogg left Villa, joining QPR and Watford respectively, over the weekend; both signing three year contracts. Although I missed it at the time, Young’s move did warrant an announcement, Hogg apparently slipped away in the night.

This is a big, big game for Alex Mcleish today. The last of a run of home games and a derby against an opponent that caused his predecessor so many problems. It’s also something of a “top of the table” encounter and the winner, should there be one, will get boasting rights over the rest of the league for at least a while today.

The young lions cruised through the group stage of the Hong Kong Soccer 7’s with the best record of all 16 teams; winning all three games, scoring nine and conceding none in the process. Andreas Weimann and Harry Forrester bagged four each and Jonathan Hogg grabbed the ninth.

It must be a sign of the strength of squad depth that Aston Villa can now boast so many decent players out on loan. It shouldn’t be any great surprise that Nicky Shorey has become the latest to get a short term move away by joining Nottingham Forest until Christmas. I hope it works out for him, he deserves to get some competitive football under his belt.
