Nigel Reo-Coker and John Carew released by Aston Villa

We have a number of players with contracts expiring this summer and uncertain futures, but the one with the biggest question mark over his head was Nigel Reo-Coker. That question mark remains no longer, the club have just announced that he has been released along with nine other players.

I know Reo-Coker wasn’t in everyone’s list of favourite players, but he’s always given 100% and frequently was the only one providing anything close to the grit we needed in the centre

Battle of the big money strikers, Carew on loan, Makoun arrives

Five days ago, I wasn’t much looking forward to Saturday, but how quickly things can change; all it took was £24m! Seriously though, it’s amazing what a boost the acquisition of Darren Bent has provided. To everyone, fans and players alike it would seem; Gabby, Ash & James Collins all waxing lyrical about Bent joining the team.

It’s also given Gerard Houllier a massive boost in the eyes of many fans who were doubting him, but ultimately it will still come

Friday Round Up

I apologise for the lack of posts the last couple of days, I’ve been furiously coding and I’m reasonably optimistic that I can start shipping components of the new site live today. If all goes to plan (and I use the word ‘plan’ in the absolute loosest sense of the word) I could well be in a position to switch over completely late tonight. If that’s the case then there will be an hour or two of downtime,

Brief Round Up – Baker, Osbourne, Warnock, Carew and Salifou

No major theme to address today, but a handful of stories that are worth touching on briefly.

Firstly, young Nathan Baker, who is currently out on loan at Lincoln, has suffered the embarrassment of being caught trying to sell his allocation of Carling Cup Final tickets on Facebook.  He didn’t actually have the tickets in his hands and not only will he now not be getting them, he won’t be going to Wembley himself either.  He’s also had to issue an

Snow, Citeh, Blackburn, Gareth Barry And Togo Update

With the football schedule in the UK recently decimated by the freaky weather it feels like we haven’t seen the Villa play for ages. Whether the fact that the squad have travelled up to Blackburn and Wigan, only to have the games cancelled, will have any adverse effect when they finally get another crack at Ewood Park on Thursday remains to be seen. Obviously we hope not.

We’re assured that Man City will play their game in hand today

Wigan Game Off And Togo Withdraw From African Nations Cup

Wigan had gone to a great deal of effort and expense to counter the freak weather conditions around the stadium to ensure today’s fixture with Aston Villa would go ahead. Unfortunately, all that work came to nothing last night as the under soil heating system failed in a major way and could not be fixed. In the end it was left to the elements over night with a pitch inspection in the morning to decide whether the game

Moustapha Salifou – King Of Awesome

As the story of the attack on the Togo national team coach broke today I couldn’t help put myself in the situation of the athletes on board.  OK, there may be questions asked about driving through a volatile region, but as professional athletes travelling during a tournament, surely none of them really expected to have their coach sprayed with machine gun fire.  In fact, for that matter, apart from soldiers and mercenaries, who really does expect to have “machine gun

Togo Bus Attacked By Angolan Rebel Soldiers

I don’t normally jump on sensational stories like this, but most readers will be aware the affection I hold for Moustapha Salifou and I’m not alone by any means.

I’ll update this post as we learn more, but it’s being reported that the Togolese national team bus has been attacked by Angolan rebel soldiers armed with machine guns and there are some injuries.

I don’t know for sure at this stage, but I’m fairly certain that our very own Salifou would have

Salifou’s Weekly Round-Up #4

Bonjour!! My name is Moustapha Sali-Salifou, but my friends call me Keith and I’m back for my (not so) weekly review. Hoo-hah!!

First of all, where are my manners? HAPPY NEW YEAR!!! I hope you all had a most excellent festive period.

I have had a splendid Christmas!! I should say thank you to the travelling Aston Villa fans who spotted me in the Emirates Stadium on the 27th and sang my name although you did get me in trouble
