Villans Do The Business For England

Nathan Delfouneso won his first England Under-21 cap this evening and managed to get a consolation goal back for England in the 2-1 loss to Greece in Doncaster. Nathan looked extremely lively as soon as he came on the pitch and made the most of his first touch with some impressive footwork down the left, leaving 2 Greek defenders chasing shadows, before sending a decent delivery into the box.

No one was on the end of it that time, but it was only a matter of minutes later that he was showing his predatory instincts with a tap in from 6 yards, although there was a hint of offside about the goal, I’m sure he won’t be concerned about that. It was encouraging to see him looking so comfortable on his debut at this level.

Fabio Capello brought James Milner on last in the second half against Egypt at Wembey with the game at 1-1 and he made his mark on the game even quicker than the young striker. Leighton Baines cross in from the left and Milner quickly fired at goal from the edge of the area. The Egyptian keeper was equal to the shot, but could only parry as far as Shaun Wright-Phillips who made no mistake with the follow up.

The game finished 3-1 to England with Peter Crouch capping another good showing for the national side with the third goal.

It’s looking more and more like James Milner is a racing certainty to make the plane to this summer’s World Cup in South Africa, but question marks remaining hanging over the heads of Heskey, Downing and Warnock who didn’t make it on to the pitch tonight. As for Ash and Gabby who didn’t even make the squad, who knows?
