Aston Villa Reserves Pick Up Silverware Again

Written by Dan on April 12, 2010

Congratulations to our reserve side who have won the Barclays Premier Reserve League South for the third year running following their 2-1 win over Fulham at Bodymoor tonight. They still have a couple of games to play, but are 5 points clear of second place Arsenal with a game in hand.

As winners of the southern league, they’ll have to face the winners from the north in a play-off final in early May. Off the top of my head, I believe it’s the north’s turn to host the final after last year’s final was hosted at Villa Park. We won that game of course, beating Sunderland 3-1 to win the national title, and this year it’s looking like we’ll face either Man Utd, Man City or Liverpool.

As I say, there’s still a couple more games to play, but it doesn’t look like Andreas Weimann will be caught for the top striker award. He currently has 9 goals and while he didn’t get on the score sheet tonight, he did get the assist on Bannan’s opener. Bannan later turned provider for Ciaran Clark’s winner.

Congratulations once again! The future’s bright, the future’s claret and blue!
