Fabian Delph Out Until Christmas

In case you weren’t aware, Fabian Delph was stretchered out of Bodymoor on Saturday with a “serious knee injury” and immediately went for scans to assess the damage. The news is not good, here’s the official statement from the club:-

AVFC
Fabian Delph suffered a rupture of the anterior cruciate ligament [ACL] in his left knee in training on Saturday at Bodymoor Heath. This has been confirmed by clinical examinations and scans.

Fabian will undergo ACL reconstruction at the appropriate time in the near future and it is expected that he will sidelined for a period of up to eight months.

It’s a massive shame for the 19 year old midfielder. He’s an exciting prospect and I think we were all hoping to see more of him, especially during the crucial run in period. It must be heart breaking for the player who’s commitment and desire is unquestionable.

I think he’s someone that with a little more time and a decent pre-season under his belt, could have been a significant player for us from the beginning of next season. That said, it’s not like he’s died. He’s young, he’ll get over it. I’m not pointing any fingers here, but he is known for throwing a few tasty tackles around the training pitch, so if this injury is the result of little over exuberance, then hopefully he’ll learn the lesson.

If so though, that’s quite an expensive and painful lesson for him and the club. Either way, now is not the time, here’s hoping that Fabian gets the best treatment and makes a speedy recovery.

Get well soon Fabian!
