Gardner Leaves And Other Player Updates

Written by Dan on January 26, 2010

As suspected, Craig Gardner has completed his move to Birmingham City for £3.5m joining fellow ex-Villan Liam Ridgewell.  Best of luck Craig and cheerio. I’ve updated the Transfers Page.

You’ve probably seen by now that Marlon Harewood has broken a metatarsal and will be out for 3 months which scuppers any loan or permanent deals that may have completed this month.  Marlon’s contract is up in the summer, so I guess we’ll take care of him until then and then he’ll no doubt be off on a free.

Nicky Shorey is due back from loan at Forest on Thursday, but they’re in negotiations to extend his stay.  With Stephen Warnock struggling for the Arsenal game tomorrow, it will be interesting to see the outcome.

Chris Herd‘s loan at Lincoln will continue until the end of the season and Imp’s manager Chris Sutton desperately wants to sign him permanently next season.  It’s worth reading the comments in that article, the lad’s clearly made an impression and from the little I saw of him last summer, I thought he looked another decent prospect too.

Then again, probably no better than Craig Gardner and if he can’t get in the first team now, then Herd’s equally unlikely to in a couple of years.  His contract’s up in the summer and without actually knowing whether he’s been offered an extension from Villa, at this stage it would seem unlikely.  As it stands, other interested clubs can start talking to him about moving in the summer and maybe he’s considering his options.
